Hi. I’m Rachel. That handsome gentleman to my left is my husband Jason. We’ve been married for 13 years and counting, and there’s no one else I’d rather press on into life’s adventures with. We live on the remnants of an old farm in Taylors Falls, Minnesota which includes a gloriously decrepit old barn, a few outbuildings, and an assortment of chickens, ducks, and cats.
There are no neighbors in sight and we absolutely love our space.
Even in our earliest conversations and dreams, we always said we wanted four kids. Daughter Ellis came in 2011, and then the surprise of a lifetime arrived in 2013 when Gabrielle (Gabby) and Lucia (Lucy), our identical twin daughters were born. Little brother Griffin was born in 2016, and we love our full tribe. Yes, we’re busy. Yes, we’re tired. Yes, we are grateful beyond measure for the four unique lives God has entrusted into our care.
Here are a few personal tidbits:
- I love to cook, and I equally enjoy eating. Once in a while I’ll post a recipe for something I can’t stop making. If it doesn’t turn out, you’ll find it under the Amateur Farm Hour section.
- I am a stalled out Creative Writing MFA candidate at Hamline University. I loved my program, I loved my professors, and I loved being spurred on creatively to do something I have always felt called to do: write. Someday I’ll finish. I promise.
- I am a flawed but fearless follower of Jesus and a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance. While my posts may not always have a religious bent, my faith is integral to who I am and how I think.
- I am still learning how to be a mother. I am not an expert at anything related to parenting, but I’m happy to share my muddling through in hopes that someone out there feels the same confusion about when, exactly, you’re supposed to switch your baby to the next size diaper.

Marla! I’m so happy to meet you! Trust me – we’re nothing if not real (perhaps a little too sometimes?) around here. Welcome to our little community!

Beautiful family! My family and I live near St. Cloud MN (also on an old farm with chickens) and we routinely drive through Taylors Falls on our way to Wisconsin (at least once a month) to visit our families (near Eau Claire, WI). Small world! I looooove driving down 95 into Wisconsin over the St. Croix river during the autumn months. So. Beautiful! Nice to have a blogging “neighbor”. 🙂
